Fight Them Over There…
Perhaps the most used cliche expressed by supporters of the war in Iraq trying to justify it is, “It’s better to fight them over there than here.”
If you think that is an ignorant statement or inaccurate, then you might want to read this statement written by Osama bin Laden and other radical Islamists in 1998.
Here is an excerpt:
The ruling to kill the Americans and their allies — civilians and military — is an individual duty for every Muslim who can do it in any country in which it is possible to do it, in order to liberate the al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy mosque [Mecca] from their grip, and in order for their armies to move out of all the lands of Islam, defeated and unable to threaten any Muslim. This is in accordance with the words of Almighty Allah, “and fight the pagans all together as they fight you all together,” and “fight them until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah.”
Here’s another:
We — with Allah’s help — call on every Muslim who believes in Allah and wishes to be rewarded to comply with Allah’s order to kill the Americans and plunder their money wherever and whenever they find it. We also call on Muslim ulema, leaders, youths, and soldiers to launch the raid on Satan’s U.S. troops and the devil’s supporters allying with them, and to displace those who are behind them so that they may learn a lesson.
Do you really think that if we withdraw our troops, al-Qaeda will just cease to exist? What about this article? The growing threat is eminent, and it is not to be taken lightly. The idea of fighting them over there instead of here seems to make a lot of sense…
Chris Matthews + Elizabeth Edwards = LIES!!
I hope you are enjoying my mathematical headlines. They seem to express the idea of the posts perfectly. Remember Hardball a couple of weeks ago? You know, the one where Ann Coulter was on and Elizabeth Edwards called in spontaneously to chew her out for making fun of John Edwards. It was a cute expression of a wife standing up for her feeble husband, but hardly spontaneous.
Chris Matthews and Elizabeth Edwards would like the public to believe that her calling in to Hardball was unplanned and spontaneous. However, thanks to the ignorance of whoever runs the Hardball emailings, we are able to realize that this was in fact a planned attack on Ann Coulter.
You might be asking yourself, “Chuck, how is it possible that you know this?” Let me explain:
Each day, subscribers to Hardball emails can get a briefing of that evening’s episode; who is on, what will be discussed. Well, on June 26th, 2007 at 2:28p, my father received his daily email briefing that said Ann Coulter will be taking submitted questions. Then, at 5:50p (just 10 minutes before the show came on), my father received a second briefing, which rarely occurs. Here is what it said:
Tonight on Hardball, Elizabeth Edwards, wife of Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, confronts conservative columnist Ann Coulter. Tune in at 7 pm ET to hear what Elizabeth has to say about Coulter’s comments about John and his campaign. Hear Coulter’s response to Elizabeth’s request that she stop the “personal attacks.”
The call was hardly spontaneous! The email even knew what Elizabeth Edwards was going to say to Ann Coulter!! And media outlets tried to pass this off as something off-the-cuff or impulsive.
Well, at least now you know the truth. Hardball? Let’s change the name to Tee-Ball.
Demoncrats + 24 Hours in Congress = Success
First of all, let me stress that initially, it may seem that the Democrats and their all nighter in Congress accomplished nothing since they (fortunately) were not able to gather the 60 votes needed to pass a troop withdrawal motion. To be completely honest, this stunt made me sick. Dick Durbin said, “How many sleepless nights have our soldiers and their families had?” So these Congressmen who spend one night debating now understand what it is like to experience the sleeplessness that war creates? I highly doubt that.
However, this stunt did promote success for the Democrats. It stressed the importance they hold in withdrawing our troops from Iraq. It stressed to the American people that they are willing to do whatever it takes to end this war.
This stunt was ridiculous. Democrats used it for fund raising and to gain support for the presidential election. To an American public that is confused with the war, anything that involves Congressmen staying up all night might look like a good solution.
I only hope Americans aren’t quite that ignorant. I know I’m not. I realize that these Democratic Congressmen are only concerned with furthering their own agenda, and if that means putting on a pot of coffee for one night out of the year, then so be it. It sure got a lot of media attention and showed Americans that Democrats are going to fight for these troops by bringing a sleeping bag and a teddy bear onto the Senate floor.
It is kind of cute to imagine Harry Reid spooning with Dick Durbin into the wee hours of the night…All for a good cause, of course.
“Our enemies aren’t threatened by talk-a-thons, and our troops deserve better than publicity stunts,” said Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader.
