The Right Track

Surprised? Not Really!

This is simply too good to pass up. Apparently, Hillary Clinton is the top pick for scariest Halloween costume among the presidential candidates. A ways behind her is Rudy Giuliani. Is this any surprise?

Asked about costume choices, 37 percent in an Associated Press-Ipsos survey this month chose New York Sen. Clinton, the front-runner among Democratic presidential contenders. Fourteen percent selected former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who leads Republicans in national polls.

No other candidate exceeded 6 percent.

Clinton was the choice of four in 10 men and one-third of women. While a predictable two-thirds of Republicans picked her, she also was the choice of 18 percent of Democrats. Among members of her own party, that made her second only to Giuliani as the scariest costume.

About one-third of independents, nearly half of whites and just over half of conservatives selected her.

Giuliani was the choice of 17 percent of men and 12 percent of women. About one-fifth of minorities and city residents and one-quarter of Democrats also picked him.

Have a great Halloween.

The Latest Fads…

Looks like John Edwards is trying to stay up with the latest trends, and actually setting a few himself: Universal kindergarten, higher taxes and “College for Everyone.” In addition to those, he will stick with the three fads all Democrats are running on:

Like other Democrats, Edwards named his top three priorities as ending the war in Iraq, enacting universal health care and overhauling the American energy system. “Those are three things instantly I would do,” he said.

Instantly? Let’s end the war in Iraq instantly and watch the country implode in a mess of genocide. Let’s enact universal health care immediately; the Democrats love to complain about the government’s response to Katrina, but want to put our health in their hands? Let’s overhaul the American energy system right now and watch our taxes sky rocket (and not see any change in temperature!).

It seems like Miss Edwards has a lot of pie in the sky ideas, but really hasn’t thought them through. That seems to be the problem with most Democrats…They only think about step one. After that, who cares?!

Edwards billed himself as a “rare combination”: The most progressive of the major candidates as well as “the most electable.” He pointed to the fact that he was elected to the Senate from a “red state” and that he comes from a rural area, two factors that he said prove his electability. Edwards said the time has passed for “poll-driven, careful, cautious ideas.”

Who needs careful, cautious ideas? Not America! Let’s just turn this country upside down! That’s what Marx wanted with the world; only through a complete change in society could his ideas actually pan out. Looks like Edwards is taking that to heart. What is the antonym for cautious? Careless. What is the antonym for careful? Inattentive.

Sounds like a great plan to me.*

*Please note that there was much sarcasm in the above post.

Phony Congressman

From a fellow blogger and friend, Clint Blaes:

The condemnatory letter sent by Dirty Harry and his Liberal Posse to Rush Limbaugh’s syndication company sold on eBay today for $2.1 million. It’s the largest amount ever raised in a charity auction on eBay. That $2.1 million will be matched by Mr. Limbaugh, and donated to the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Fund, which gives scholarships to kids of fallen Marines and Law Enforcement Officers. I’d say that’s a pretty good use of a few pieces of otherwise worthless paper. Hopefully this will bring an end to the phony “phony soldiers” controversy invented by Mr. Reid and his friends at Media Matters.

Here is Reid’s surrender.

I don’t quite understand what Reid is doing here. It seems almost like he is giving permission to Limbaugh to sell this letter, or at the very least, blessing it. Who is Reid to do this? Who cares about what he thinks?! I guarantee you Limbaugh doesn’t.

Is it just me or does Reid keep calling Mark Mays (President/CEO of Clear Channel) “Mark May?”

Phony soldiers? Phony majority leader is more like it.

Brownback Expected to Drop…

From the AP:

WASHINGTON — Republican Sam Brownback will drop out of the 2008 presidential campaign on Friday, people close to the Kansas senator said Thursday.

Brownback, a longshot conservative contender, had trouble raising money to compete in the race. He is expected announce his withdrawal in Topeka, Kan.

He raised a little more than $800,000 in the third quarter of this year, his lowest quarterly amount since entering race. He has brought in more than $4 million overall and is eligible for $2 million in federal matching funds.

“I know Senator Brownback enjoyed campaigning and meeting new people in talking about ideas for the future of America, but I think it came down to money,” said one person close to Brownback, who requested anonymity because the candidate had not yet announced his plans.

Brownback, who is in his second term, had said in his first Senate campaign he would serve no more than two terms in Senate. He is widely expected to seek the Kansas governor’s office in 2010.

Imus to Return on WABC-AM

From DrudgeReport.com:

In a dramatic and dazzling career rebound, controversial radio host Don Imus has secured a deal returning him to the airwaves on December 3 -- this time on the nation's most listened to talk station, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned!

"Imus In The Morning" will make a high-impact resurrection on WABC in New York City, top sources reveal.

"We'll have him on a standard 40-second delay," a studio source explains. "Don is rested, humbled, and ready for war!"

Specific terms of the deal will not be released, but the host, who was fired by CBS and MSNBC after making disparaging comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team, has inked a eight-figure, multiyear contract with WABC parent company, CITADEL BROADCASTING.

But who will his GUESTS be?

Will senators come on? Presidential candidates? Tim Russert? Anna Quindlen? Who's the guest now? WILL THE ELITES TURN THEIR BACK ON HIM?

MORE

The stunning comeback is a defeat for those who protested and picketed Imus earlier this year.

Imus is said to be particularly incensed by Senator Hillary Clinton's "shameless exploitation" of the Rutgers situation.

The senator, who Imus has called "satan" and the "devil", traveled to Rutgers in April to praise the women's basketball team for its response to the controversy. In a campaign email, Hillary called Imus's comments "small-minded bigotry and coarse sexism."

"Hillary, prepare to meet your maker!" a source close to the host joked early Monday.

Station executives are still tinkering with the new schedule at WABC, which will likely see current morning jock Curtis Sliwa paired with late morning's John Gambling.

Imus will be interviewed by Barbara Walters for a coming special.

Change of Plans…

Looks like the show is going to have to be cut short once again. Hopefully this will be the last time. What this means is that there will be no interview with Matt Wagner and Lydia Peele, no sports, and no interview with Evan Maloney. We’ll save the exclusive interview with the director of Indoctrinate U for next week. The show tonight will focus solely on the events that have taken place the past few days with the Collegian.
