The Right Track – 11/19/2007

Back to normal today…That is, we did an hour and a half long show. We discussed many issues facing K-State with Matt Wagner and Lydia Peele (it’s been awhile since she joined us in the studio!). Then we discussed the war in Iraq and the Democrats’ whining and moaning. After that, we got Andrew Wilkow on the phone. Andrew is the host of The Wilkow Majority on Sirius Satellite Radio. It was an exceptional interview. We also talked with a caller about the war in Iraq after the interview. Then, to end the show, we brought Adam Holste and special guest Keven McCarty into the studio to discuss sports…Mainly, we chatted about the KU vs. Mizzou game coming up this Saturday…

Have a great Thanksgiving!

NYU Students = _____ Americans? (You fill in the blank)

I would fill in the blank with the word phony. But that’s just me.

From Politico:

Two-thirds say they’ll do it for a year’s tuition. And for a few, even an iPod touch will do. That’s what NYU students said they’d take in exchange for their right to vote in the next presidential election, a recent survey by an NYU journalism class found. Only 20 percent said they’d exchange their vote for an iPod touch. But 66 percent said they’d forfeit their vote for a free ride to NYU.

Wow. 20 percent of this college’s campus would give up the right to vote for nearly $300. But, don’t fret, they still think the right to vote is important:

Ninety percent of the students who said they’d give up their vote for the money also said they consider voting “very important” or “somewhat important”; only 10 percent said it was “not important.”

While voting is obviously important to these students at NYU, apparently a free ride or an iPod touch is just a bit more important. Those polled try to say that voting is important and that every vote counts, but then why does their vote have such a low price?

I don’t even know how to respond to this story. The only thing I can say is that I’m afraid there are many more individuals in this country who would rather have an iPod touch than the right to vote…You know what? Maybe we should just get them all iPods…

I don’t know if I want such ignorant citizens voting for the next president.

Sen. Brownback on Softball

I don’t know why Sen. Brownback went on Chris Matthew’s Softball, but in case you missed it, here’s the video.

From the Senator…

From Sen. Sam Brownback (I am not endorsing McCain yet, I just thought you would like to see what is on the Senator’s mind):

Dear Friend,

This morning, I flew to Iowa to join and endorse my friend, John McCain, for President of the United States. John McCain is a true American hero and I’m proud to stand with him today. He is the only candidate who can rally the Reagan coalition of conservatives, Independents, and conservative Democrats needed to defeat Hillary Clinton or any other Democrat in the general election next year.

While I respect all of the Republicans running for president this year, John McCain is the only choice to lead our country in the global fight against Islamic fundamentalism. He has the experience, the knowledge, and the courage for this fight. He alone among the candidates for President recognized years ago that our strategy in Iraq was failing and had the guts to call for change. We need that leadership in the White House.

John McCain also represents the values that are the core of our Republican party. He has spent a lifetime standing up for human rights around the world, including a consistent 24 year pro-life record of protecting the right of the unborn. We do not have to abandon our principles of life, faith and family to defeat the Democrats next fall; we can stand with John McCain.

With momentum growing, we need to rally around John McCain today. Please join me by going to JohnMcCain.com today and signing up as a member of the McCain team. Let’s rally behind the only conservative in this race you can beat Hillary Clinton.

Sincerely,

Senator Sam Brownback

Sen. Sam Brownback Makes Endorsement Today…

From John McCain’s campaign:

Today, Sen. Sam Brownback has endorsed John McCain for President of the United States. He first made the announcement in Dubuque, Iowa. He is traveling around the Hawkeye State with McCain, and the last stop on the endorsement trail will be Sioux City.

Before this endorsement I thought McCain had no shot at the presidency. However, now with the support of Sen. Brownback, things may change. This is from The Guardian:

Brownback’s backing could signal to evangelical Christians that they can trust McCain and could help solidify McCain’s credentials on social issues. The endorsement could be especially important in Iowa, where McCain trails in polls.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens. I would like to point out that when I interviewed Sen. Brownback a few weeks ago, I made a mention of a presidential race that would look like McCain-Brownback ‘08.

This endorsement doesn’t necessarily mean that he would get the VP slot if McCain won the primary, but it sure can’t hurt.

Seinfeld vs. King

As requested. Enjoy.

Larry King deserves so much more than this little beating that Jerry Seinfeld gives him. Either way, it’s still hilarious. Way to go, Seinfeld.

“Don’t most shows go down a little,” says King.
Seinfeld answers back, “Most people do, also.”
Insert awkward laugh.

Give it up King. Nobody cares anymore.
